BOTSWANA

Chobe National Park

A stay overlooking the Chobe River floodplains, combining a river safari, game drives, and some of the highest concentrations of wildlife.

DESTINATION OVERVIEW

Chobe Safari

This portion of the itinerary is centered around Chobe National Park and a two-night stay at Ngoma Safari Lodge in Botswana. The experience combines a river safari and game drives, providing opportunities to observe wildlife from both the water and the bush.

Chobe is home to one of the largest elephant populations on earth and four of Africa’s Big Five: elephant, buffalo, lion, and leopard.  One of the things that makes Chobe stand out is the sheer number of animals that can be seen throughout the park.

River Cruise

Chobe River Cruise

A river cruise on the Chobe River complements the game drives by providing access to areas that cannot be reached by vehicle.

During the cruise, sightings included elephants, buffalo, hippos, crocodiles, monkeys, baboons, and a variety of birdlife. The slower pace of the river provides opportunities to observe wildlife along the shoreline and throughout the floodplains.

game drives

Chobe Game Drives

Game drives in Chobe are often defined by the sheer number of animals visible throughout the park. Wildlife sightings are frequent, with animals regularly seen along roads, near watering areas, and throughout the landscape.

During our stay, sightings included Chobe’s Big Four: elephant, buffalo, lion, and leopard. Large numbers of elephants, zebras, giraffes, and other wildlife were visible throughout the park.

Staying at Ngoma Safari Lodge

Located in Botswana overlooking the Chobe River floodplains, Ngoma Safari Lodge combines access to Chobe National Park with expansive views across the landscape. Wildlife is often visible directly from the property, while evenings are spent watching the sun set across the floodplains.

Perched on the edge of a plateau, Ngoma Safari Lodge overlooks the Chobe floodplains below.

A waterhole located below the lodge regularly attracts wildlife throughout the day. Sunsets across the floodplains and clear night skies are among the defining features of a stay at Ngoma.

life at ngoma

Between activities, time at Ngoma Safari Lodge is spent enjoying the property itself. Private plunge pools, outdoor seating areas, and views across the floodplains provide opportunities to relax between game drives.

Evenings often center around the lodge’s firepit, where guests gather to watch the sunset across the floodplains before dinner. Clear night skies and excellent stargazing continue long after the sun goes down.
